“One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.” – Dr. Maria Montessori
The Primary classroom is a joyful environment where children are given one on one and group lessons from the five traditional Montessori curriculum areas: practical life, sensorial development, language, mathematics. and culture (which includes geography, science, art and music). The morning work cycle includes circle time, snack, formal Montessori presentations, and uninterrupted time for choosing and completing work. Guided by a credentialed Montessorian and a trained Assistant Teacher, children choose to work alone or with a friend, and they are free to explore the activities that most appeal to them. ToTH students enjoy an hour of outdoor playtime each day, weather permitting, and nap in the afternoons if tired. We also offer Spanish instruction Monday through Thursday afternoons.
For the 2017-18 school year, arrival is any time between 8:15am and 8:45am, and school ends at 2:45pm. For information on extended school hours and admissions for 2018-19, please visit the links below.
The ToTH Primary Community. The most successful Primary programs are strong communities in which families view themselves not as patrons, but as partners. ToTH Primary parents are supported with parent ed. nights, newsletters, conferences, social media, family events, and resources. We welcome families who are passionate about offering their 3-6 year-old an authentic early Montessori experience and who are confident that our Primary program is a good fit.
